Hazelwood to Cave Hill (Belfast Zoo)

Grade: Moderate/technically challenging in some parts. About 4 miles distance.

We'll meet in the carpark at Belfast Zoo just beside the main building. You drive right up from the Antrim Road to the main car park.
The woodland is just round the side of the zoo entrance.

We'll walk through the wooded glen and up around the caves. We then ascend the steep but short path to McArt's Fort. That way we'll get the best of woodland and hilltop views that should be stunning, weather permitting.

The hazel woods are beautiful at the moment with stunning bluebells as a bonus!

As usual wear proper walking boots/shoes. Walking poles are recommended.

Running shoes/trainers will be particularly slippery and dangerous so don't wear them.

Non members and guests pay £6 for walks.
Members who have paid their £20 annual fee pay £1 per walk.

For those who use public transport, there's a bus stop just opposite the zoo on the Antrim Road. There's a five minute walk up to the car park.
