Holywood to Crawfordsburn

Details

Grade: Moderate - approximately 5-10 miles
(the actual path is easy, the grade is moderate only because of the distance)

We'll be walking along the North Down Coastal Route from Holywood to Crawfordsburn and back again (or just do it one way if that's enough for you. We'll stop for refreshments in Crawfordsburn.

The path is mostly flat and easy and should take us about 2 hours each way. We'll take in the wonderful seascape looking out to Whitehead, Cave Hill and Belfast. We'll pass Second World War coastal defences at Grey's Fort as well as Crawfordsburn estate and Helen's Bay.

Bring a rain jacket just in case and good walking shoes/boots.

This can also be done as a one way walk by taking the train back from
Helen's Bay Train Station to Holywood, there's an hourly train at 1:51pm. Train fare back to Holywood is £4 and free of course if you're of a special vintage. Dogs are allowed on trains if well behaved and at driver's discretion. Fare is free for dogs.

Anyone needing a lift to the meeting point can post up requesting transport. Indicate the general area you are coming from and a driver in the area may oblige. Please give driver something for petrol. Please use normal worldly discretion.

Directions: Just click on the location balloon on your Meetup smartphone app and your phone GPS will bring you straight to the meeting point.

Public Transport - Translink also serves Holywood train station and people can access the Meetup point via train services from across the north with any array of fare options.

Walk is £1 for paid up members and £6 for non-members and guests.

As always contact me by SMS or a regular phone call on 07583 042962 if lost or late.
