Organising and Governing Evolutionary Architectures with Pat Kua

Details

Hey folks, we are very excited to announce that we will be hosting Pat Kua for an Architecture focused meetup on the 11th of May. Pat is a frequent keynote speaker and author of the book Building Evolutionary Architectures.

Book abstract - "The software development ecosystem is constantly changing, providing a constant stream of new tools, frameworks, techniques, and paradigms. Over the past few years, incremental developments in core engineering practices for software development have created the foundations for rethinking how architecture changes over time, along with ways to protect important architectural characteristics as it evolves. This practical guide ties those parts together with a new way to think about architecture and time"

Big thanks to LIT for bringing Pat over and for hosting this meetup!

Join us from 5:30 for some pizza.
Kick off at 6:00.

Agenda:

Talk 1 - Lightning Talk ~ 10 mins**:**
Title: How to optimise your architecture with SCORP
Susan O'Brien (@susanobrien88)

Abstract: Taking Amazon's Well Architected Review to the next level with SCORP, a process of continually assessing your architecture using the pillars of AWS - Security, Cost, Operational excellence, Reliability and Performance efficiency.

Susan's Bio: Susan has 23 years of experience in the industry, 17 of which have been at Liberty IT working across the company on varied projects. She is currently focused on developing and running a business critical multi-million dollar conversational AI platform for Claims and Service customers using AWS, leveraging their NLP and ML capabilities. In her spare time she enjoys walking her dog in the countryside where she lives with her husband and 2 teenage daughters.

Talk 2 - Organising and Governing Evolutionary Architectures (Fitness Functions)
Pat Kua (@patkua)
Abstract: A key concept we discuss in the book, "Building Evolutionary Architectures" is the idea of a fitness function. But what are they exactly? In this talk, we will explore what a fitness function is, the different categories of fitness functions, and some real-world examples of how companies use these to build evolutionary architectures.

Pat's Bio: Patrick Kua is a seasoned technology leader with 20+ years of experience. His current mission is accelerating the growth of technical leaders through coaching, mentoring and training. He has had many years of hands-on experience, leading, managing and improving complex organisations and software systems as the CTOand Chief Scientistof N26 (Berlin, Germany) and as a Technical Principal Consultantat ThoughtWorks. He is a frequent keynote and conference speaker, author of three books including The Retrospective Handbook, Talking with Tech Leads and Building Evolutionary Architectures and runs the free popular newsletter for leaders in tech, “Level Up” (http://levelup.patkua.com) and the Tech Lead Academy, offering online training for technical leaders. You can find him online on twitter as @patkua or running his very popular “Shortcut to Tech Leadership” workshop.
