💡 Speaker One:
Sandon Jacobs, Senior Developer Advocate, ConfluentTitle of Talk:
What's New in Apache KafkaⓇ 4.1Abstract:
Apache Kafka has long been the default for real-time data architectures, and each release extends its capabilities to handle new patterns and requirements. Apache Kafka 4.1 continues this evolution with new features that address emerging developer needs. The new release includes something for all data-streaming enthusiasts, from seasoned Kafka veterans to Kafka-curious developers. In particular, Kafka 4.1 addresses three areas where developers have been asking for native solutions: flexible message processing patterns, modern authentication standards and more resilient stream processing operations.
Let’s review the highlights of the 4.1 release that should pique your interest.Bio:
Sandon Jacobs is a Developer Advocate at Confluent, based in Raleigh, NC. Sandon has two decades of experience designing and building applications, primarily on the JVM. His data streaming journey began while building data pipelines for real-time bidding on mobile advertising exchanges—and Apache Kafka was the platform to meet that need. Later experiences in television media and the energy sector led his teams to Kafka Streams and Kafka Connect, integrating data from various in-house and vendor sources to build canonical data models.Outside of work, Sandon is actively involved in his Indigenous tribal community. He serves on the NC American Indian Heritage Commission, and also as a powwow singer and emcee at many celebrations around North America. Follow Sandon on Twitter @SandonJacobs or Instagram @_sandonjacobs, where he posts about his powwow travels, family, golf, and more.
💡 Speaker Two:
Danica Fine, Lead Developer Advocate, SnowflakeTitle of Talk:
The Luge: Apache Iceberg™ and StreamingAbstract:
Apache Iceberg™ is known for its rapid ascent as a go to for batch analytics table formats, but did you know it’s also great for streaming applications, as well?In this talk we’ll talk about the current state of the Iceberg Project and how the V3 Table format has brought in some exciting new features that make streaming even easier. Ever had to deal with rapidly changing message schema? Say hello to Variant type. Need to track changes over time? Hi there Row Lineage. The Iceberg Table Spec V3 is bringing all sorts of great new functionality to streaming, but this is just the beginning. We’ll also talk about some of the current features in the works for V4, again, many of them aimed at making the streaming experience better than ever.
Join us and get an overview of the present and future of Apache Iceberg.
💡 Speaker Three:
Viktor Gamov, Principal Developer Advocate, ConfluentTitle of Talk:
Introduction to Stateful Stream Processing with Apache FlinkAbstract:
Stream Processing has evolved quickly in a short time: only a few years ago, stream processing was mostly simple real-time aggregations with limited throughput and consistency. Today, many stream processing applications have sophisticated business logic, strict correctness guarantees, high performance, low latency, and maintain terabytes of state without databases. Stream processing frameworks also abstract a lot of the low-level details away, such as routing the data streams, taking care of concurrent executions, and handling various failure scenarios while ensuring correctness. This talk will give an introduction into Apache Flink, one of the most advanced open source stream processors that powers applications in Netflix, Uber, and Alibaba among others. In particular, we will go through the use cases that Flink was designed for, explain concepts like stateful and event-time stream processing, and discuss Flink's APIs and ecosystem.
