Kafka Streams Explained: A View Beyond the Simple Consumption and Production of Events

Abstract:
Kafka Streams is a lightweight stream processing library for Apache Kafka.
This talk dives deep into the practical applications of Kafka Streams from a Java developer's perspective. We'll hands on explore how to leverage Kafka Streams to add real-time processing power to your applications, how to test it and we'll discuss the key considerations when choosing Kafka Streams over alternatives like Apache Flink.

Bio:
👨‍💻 I'm Jonas, a Software Developer with a keen focus on crafting robust Event Driven Architectures in Java. I thrive at the crossroads of business and technology, always keeping a pragmatic perspective on both realms.

👉 My approach is rooted in a combination of proven methodologies, including Extreme Programming (XP), Test-Driven Development (TDD), and Domain-Driven Design (DDD). I believe that these principles pave the way for scalable, efficient, and maintainable software solutions.

💡I don't just enjoy implementing these techniques; I'm also an enthusiastic communicator. I love sharing my thoughts and ideas with the development community. You can often find me contributing insights through articles on my blog, http://jonasg.io, or at tech conferences, where I'm always excited to engage in discussions and deliver insightful talks.

Title of Talk:
Fetch from follower can save you oodles

Abstract:
Configuring your consumers to fetch from closest replica (also known as KIP-392) can yield instant, and significant, savings in a cloud environment.

We'll talk about how we rolled KIP-392 at New Relic and the architecture that made the transition quick and painless. And we'll bring receipts!

Bio:
Jan Urbański is a Principal Software Engineer at New Relic, where he's been working with the Finops team for the last couple of years. His interests lie at the intersection of streaming platforms and cost management. He's always on a lookout to save a buck, either by improving software efficiency or by re-architecting for better resource utilization.
