Abstract:
Kafka and ClickHouse are two powerful and popular technologies that can work together to create a high-performance, real-time data processing and analytics pipeline. They complement each other pretty well, and the combination can be leveraged in various use cases.In this talk, we will analyse the options, play with some demos, and pontificate on what "real-time" actually means.

Bio:
Tyler Hannan is an experienced technologist with a passion for human interaction. With a career that has spanned the private and public sectors, large enterprises, consulting, and startups of varying success, he has maintained a focus on data persistence and analysis. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, called on to provide commentary about market trends impacting the design and deployment of database solutions and distributed systems.

Title of Talk:
Banking Customer Use Case: PSD2 Event Processing with Apache Kafka and Flink

Abstract:
BIG Industries assisted a retail bank in enhancing its mobile banking app to comply with PSD2 and improve user-friendliness. The new feature enables customers to set custom payment thresholds for transactions, increasing security and control. It applies to all payment methods, including credit/debit cards, online transactions, and envelope payments. Users can also opt-in for push notifications for added transparency. By using Kafka for event streaming and Flink for real-time data processing, the bank ensured that customer-defined payment limits were enforced instantly and notifications were sent without delays, improving both security and customer experience.

Bio:
Srivatsan has a Master of Science in Software Systems and Data Warehousing. He has a strong domain knowledge in Telecommunications and Financial Services.
His passion for software development helped him to evolve his career from pure software testing to a lead full stack developer role.
He is a Big Data engineer with experience in developing data flow pipelines from data collection and processing to the production of data insights.
In the recent years, his expertise is in developing Apache Kafka, Spark and Flink based applications, engineering solutions using IBM cloud for one
of the largest commercial banks in Belgium.
