What we’re about
Members of the BQC Queer Women’s group are people in the queer community (i.e., anyone not straight or gender-conforming) and their friends and allies who are 18+ years old. The intent of this group is not to exclude people; rather, it is to provide a safe space that welcomes and includes people throughout the queer spectrum who may not feel as comfortable in a mostly male conversation group.
Our group is a social group that is founded on the principles of inclusion and diversity. The goal is to include, accept and celebrate people who represent our local and diverse queer community. People who attend our events may represent a diverse background of gender identities, and may include (but are not limited to) females/women, lesbians, intersex, nonbinary, trans, and agender, as well as others who are don't fit into any specific category. Our space is to be a safe space, no matter your orientation, gender identity, nationality, race, religion, or language. We encourage all to participate with an open mind and open heart, and to abide by our zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior. Please, be kind, be open, and be prepared to meet and enjoy the company of the amazing people in our queer community.
Please take note of important information below before you submit a request to join. The group consists of members on Facebook, Meetup, other online platforms and offline too. While we use the internet for our purposes, we're not primarily an online social group. Instead, we meet IN PERSON, so please join only if you are looking for in-person experiences. The group will meet on the THIRD SATURDAY every month at 11 a.m. Locations are announced at least a week in advance. Occasionally we may meet at other times for extra events like movies and nearby excursions.
To join the group, answer all new member questions completely, agree to Rules, and watch for possible messages from the Admin or a non-friend. People requesting membership may be verified in person before being admitted to the group.
Importantly, even if you or your friends do not join via Facebook or Meetup, the group rules apply to everyone, so it's all about respect for the individual and having a safe place to be yourself and to let others do the same.
For members on Facebook and Meetup, we request that you indicate if you are coming to meetings via an RSVP (coming/going) to improve statistics and help hold seats before you arrive. WATCH for updates on meeting locations and for any schedule changes.
For purposes of online privacy, this is a Private group, with limited details available to non-members, and membership is not always granted before an in-person meeting.
Join us as we create a friendly and safe place to be seen, heard and laugh together! Through our gatherings, we will connect, celebrate, unite and advocate for the intergenerational LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC communities.
