Monthly meetup

Details

This month's meeting is part of the ACX Meetups Everywhere!

This is a monthly recurring event for general hanging out and rationalish discussion.

Last time, we had some general rationalist discussion as well as some informed by a couple of short readings—one rationalist, and one meta-rationalist. It was fun, so let's try that again. The readings are optional!

This month's rationalist pick: The time-reversal heuristic (2016) by Andrew Gelman, which describes a tool useful in thinking about the replication crisis in the sciences
This month's rational-ish pick: A big little idea called legibility (2010) by Venkatesh Rao, which gives a brief introduction to one of the key ideas in James C. Scott's Seeing Like a State

(If you want to nominate a reading for a future meeting, please do so.)

COVID-19 safety measures

There will be both indoor and outdoor seating options, and both food and beverage options. If anyone has a strong preference for indoors over outdoors for health and safety reasons, that will take precedence, weather permitting. If not, we can start inside and move outside if it's nice out and the majority prefers. If any health, safety, or accessibility concern might keep you from attending, please reach out! We'd prefer to accommodate wherever possible.
The event host is instituting the above safety measures for this event. Meetup is not responsible for ensuring, and will not independently verify, that these precautions are followed.
