It's again time for our semi-annual ACX Everywhere meetup. This will be listed on the ACX list of meetups, so expect newcomers. (Newcomers: welcome!)

In addition to our usual format

  1. Unstructured conversation on rationalist and rationalist-adjacent topics is the default
  2. An optional discussion topic, possibly with short readings, is also available for discussion
  3. Engaging in good faith and openness to disagreement and nuance are table stakes

—we'll also have some ice-breaking activities planned as well as a few board or card games (feel free to bring your own!).

This month's optional discussion topic: art. That's overly broad, so here are a few questions to frame the discussion (this is basically where last month's meeting fixated towards the end; we felt the conversation wasn't done!):

  • What is the value of art for the individual? For society?
  • When is art harmful? Ought we to allow harmful art?
  • How should we relate to art that wasn't considered harmful in its day may may be considered harmful now?
  • What counts as art? Does the distinction matter?
