8k Turkey Trot Training: Kickoff (10 Weeks)

Want to build up your endurance and work toward running the 8k Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving? Join us for the next 10 weeks on the Trinity Trails! We will meet every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday morning. If you miss a group day, you can always train on your own another day and join us for the next one.
This program is designed for beginners and those easing back into running. Each week we’ll combine short running intervals with walking breaks, gradually increasing distance and stamina over time.
What to expect each week:
- Week 1: 1 min run / 2 min walk, repeat 8x (≈30 min)
- Week 2: 2 min run / 2 min walk, repeat 7x (≈30 min)
- Week 3: 3 min run / 90 sec walk, repeat 6x (≈32 min)
- Week 4: 5 min run / 2 min walk, repeat 4x (≈35 min)
- Week 5: 8 min run / 2 min walk, repeat 3x (≈36 min)
- Week 6: 10 min run / 90 sec walk, repeat 3x (≈38 min)
- Week 7: 15 min run / 2 min walk / 15 min run (≈32 min)
- Week 8: 20 min run / 2 min walk / 15 min run (≈37 min)
- Week 9: 20 min run / 2 min walk / 20 min run (≈42 min)
- Week 10: Monday: 30 min run, Thursday: Turkey Trot (5k or 8k 🎉)
No experience needed — just bring comfy shoes, water, and a positive attitude. Our goal is to progress together week by week and celebrate completing either the 5k or 8k Turkey Trot! Sign up for the race at https://ymcafw.org/annual-turkey-trot/
