Humans have strived to understand and enhance healthy longevity for thousands of years across diverse cultures. Pursuing this knowledge became more sophisticated in 1958 when Edward Kaplan and Paul Meier introduced a statistical concept and graphical approach to measuring it, known as the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.

Survival Probability: A concept so…

  • Simple: The information can be displayed in a diagram that even a 5th grader can understand.

  • Profound: It allows for comparing and contrasting simple and complex ways of increasing a healthy lifespan across thousands of independent variables.

Since then, the results of numerous studies have been showcased using Survival Probability Diagrams to document the life-promoting potency of various independent variables. This is excellent news for those interested in healthy longevity. However, the sheer volume of these studies and the density of their findings make it challenging to grasp the practical implications of the data fully.

Recently, it's become clear: After 60+ years of studies containing Survival Probability details, it is now possible to:

  • Identify remarkably healthy, even potent longevity interventions that we might leverage.

  • Identify and understand the underlying Biological Intervention Targets within us.

In 2015, I established a Longecity Forum thread that began the kind of discussion we’ll have in this meetup.

In the first meetup of this series (February 28), we discussed four Biological Intervention Targets that can significantly increase Survival Probability. On April 5, we discussed recent scientific study knowledge developments that have changed the knowledge landscape of the field.

In this meetup, we will review…

  • Dozens, maybe even one hundred, Survival Probability- and Mortality Hazard-diagrams.

  • The Interventions depicted in them and the most likely mechanisms of action underlying them.

  • Patterns in the data distinguishing between interventions implicating profound- vs. middling-positive effects.

Future meetups in this series will delve deeper into each target's intervention targets and techniques, providing more detail on increasing Survival Probability.
