If you haven't read this huge book about the founding of Israel, start now. It was ENORMOUSLY popular in the late 50's and 60's, selling more than any book since Gone with the Wind. For extra credit, watch the movie, but even that 3 1/2 hour marathon is the condensed version.

There was a time when the world was still reeling after WWII and the graphic revelations of the Holocaust. What was to come of the remnant Jews and how could they find a home? And there were the Palestinians, the British, other middle eastern countries and peoples.

It was never viewed as accurate history, so at least keep a condensed guide along. Some of the book's villains weren't as villainous as depicted and like any novel's account, things were even more complicated. The book finishes with a hope for peace and justice...
