South African Culture and Language Fundraiser Workshop
Details
Did you know that South Africa has 11 official languages, several ethnic groups with distinct cultural practices, stunning national parks filled with wildlife, and some of the best wines in the world?
In this workshop, we’ll review some of the amazing cultural and linguistic features that South Africa holds from Cape Town to Johannesburg, Kruger National Park to the Wild Coast. We’ll share some of the country’s rich history along with personal experiences to share the beauty of this country and people. You can learn some basic Zulu phrases and can expect to sample some traditional Zulu dishes and beverages. Join us on Monday, July 27th from 5:30-7pm!
This workshop is a fundraiser and all money raised will go directly to help support a low-income (and fantastic) school in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. I worked there for several months and the teachers and students are wonderful and would really use some support for building repairs and books. We will learn about the history of this remarkable school and current projects to support the students and faculty.
Local travel designers Alexis and Nelle will also share information about their family-friendly and luxury South African tours and host a raffle benefiting the school project. If you've ever considered traveling to South Africa, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about what the country has to offer!
Suggested contribution for the workshop is $30-60 per person, and additional donations are warmly welcomed.
RSVPs are required so we know how much food to prepare and so we can send you more information. Please email me bendedinitiative@gmail.com.
We’ll meet at Bend Language Institute (BLI). For those of you new to BLI, the address is 416 NE Greenwood Ave and it is inside the MacTek Building -- so you will walk through the computer shop to get to our room.
Bend Education Initiative is a local 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. You can see more about Bend Education Initiative, as well as ways to donate on our website here: https://bendeducationinitiative.org/
