Three Fingered Jack via PCT and camp at Summit Lake

Details

I know this is late notice, but I wanted to post, just in case...!

I just summited Mt. Washington with my two kids (22,20). And the Search and Rescue guys that we met while there, described three fingered jack as easier than both Washington and North Sister - motivating me to go check it out. In the past, I have gone to the base/saddle of TFJ via Canyon Creek Meadows, but this time via PCT where it crosses hwy 20. The goal is to get to the top of the TFJ tree line and see what I can see. Summiting is optional, but for those that might attempt, allocating an hour. 12 miles round trip with a summit is longer than I'd prefer, so I intend to camp about 4 miles in at Summit Lake (water) and head up in the morning. I have an extra set of backpacking gear, if anyone needs it.

If anyone would like to make the trek in a day trip, we could meet at the 4 mile junction at 9am.

The hike is moderate up to the ridge and hard once on the ridge due to loose rock/scree.

Carpool from Safeway Century Dr, bend. Depart parking lot at departure time.

Bring all of the backpacking essentials, food and water, poles, gloves, hat, sunglasses, lotion. Bring a light day pack for Sunday morning. It is late enough in the season, it could get chilly in the evening and freeze at night.

Ladies are welcome, however with this late notice there might not be a 2nd participant. If there is any interest, I can rerun this event with more lead time. Please message me with any thoughts or ideas.

Thanks!
