Fort Rock Homestead Village

We will be heading to The Fort Rock Valley Homestead Museum and explore the early original homestead buildings in the village: homes, a church, a school, other buildings, and a variety of vintage equipment that have been transported to the village. The village and its dozen or so furnished buildings present a fascinating perspective on the homesteading in rural Oregon and numerous vintage photo opportunities.

The Fort Rock Valley Historical Society charges a very modest $6 for their ongoing restoration project. Cash or credit card accepted. We're not sure at this time about Venmo/PayPal options.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONSIDERATIONS

Photo opportunities are virtually endless as we explore inside the buildings and the grounds of the village. This location is great for creative compositions and an opportunity to photograph in both color and black and white hues. A few images from a previous outing are included in the photo album below.

As we will be photographing both interior and exterior compositions, plan on lenses for both full light and low light conditions. A wide angle lens would be very helpful and a tripod for long exposure photography in the darker buildings.

Please be prepared to carry any photography equipment needed as Fort Rock Valley Historical Society requests no backpacks on the village grounds. While we have brought backpacks in the past for day and night photography outings without any issues, we still need to be prepared about this rule just in case.

PICNIC LUNCH AT FORT ROCK NATIONAL NATURAL LANDMARK

Our picnic lunch stop offers a chance for a short, brief excursion from the shaded picnic shelters up toward the Fort Rock volcanic tuff ring. PLEASE NOTE: Since two areas of the park are closed till August 15th to hiking and bouldering to protect nesting birds of prey (eagles and falcons), we are not scheduling any exploration time there.
