Details

Don't miss this opportunity to** hike to two stunning waterfalls near Willamette Pass** about a mile past Waldo Lake off Hwy 58. Jeff suggested this hike. Thanks Jeff! I haven't done this hike yet, so I am super excited!

Hike Distance: 3.5 miles
Climb: 670 feet
Difficulty: Moderate
Carpooling highly recommended.
Hiking poles highly recommended for the Diamond Creek Falls Trail. The hike to the falls necessitates walking down (and up) a steep log staircase and a short portion of the trail that commonly has water seeping across it making it slippery.
According to Jeff, this trail skirts 300’ cliff edges which are NOT next to the trail but are close enough people often want to look over the edge. Please use common sense as a fall would likely be fatal. We ask that you be very, very careful if you choose to do so!!!
No dogs because of the close proximity to the cliffs.
Day Use Fee Area ($5 a vehicle) or Recreation Pass required.

Some folks might want to consider going to Wetlands Taphouse in Lapine before returning to Bend.

Interesting facts about the falls:

Salt Creek Falls is Oregon's second highest single drop waterfall, cascading 286 feet (87m). (Multnomah Falls is the highest.)

Salt Creek Falls is one of Oregon's most powerful falls, with an average yearly flow of 50,000 gallons per minute surging over the rocks.

The primary observation platform at the top of the waterfall is only 50 yards (45.720 m) from the parking lot.
There is a short hike down a well established trail to an observation point for pictures.
