Details
Get ready for a beautiful 5 mile moderate wildflower hike along the West Metolius River Trail! This one’s a real gem!
We will begin our out and back hike at the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. Our turnaround point is Canyon Creek Campground. There are restrooms at each end of the trail.
Bring plenty of water and snack or lunch. Hiking pools optional. There are tons of rocks and tripping hazards FYI. Poles would be helpful. There were no mosquitoes on this trail in June. But you might want to bring mosquito spray just in case.
Please arrive by at least 8:45 so we can hit the trail at nine.
**
Directions: Turn north from Hwy. 20 at the Camp Sherman/Metolius Recreation Area sign. Stay right on Forest Service Road 14 until the blue fish hatchery sign.**
“This easy walk along the Metolius River in Central Oregon features gushing springs, beautiful flowers and a fish hatchery.
About the Hike: The Metolius, most magical of all Oregon rivers, emerges fully grown at 50,000 gallons a minute from the arid base of Black Butte. Sample the river's wizardry with this easy hike along a section of the oasis-like riverbank. The trail passes sudden springs, reveals colorful bird life and leads to a wonderfully visitable fish hatchery.”
