Details

5.8 miles round trip
Moderate pace and moderate difficulty.

Join us on a hike to the snow hole, located on the NY and Vermont border, 2.9 miles north of Petersburg Pass. This hike follows the Taconic Crest Trail from the height of land on Route 2 between Williamstown, Mass and Petersburg, NY. The snow hole is a natural split in the mountain that typically retains snow into the summer. The trail has a short steep portion initially but then follows a more gradual pattern of ups and downs after that. There are a couple of view points along the way, with views to the west. If we are lucky we may get to see a variety of wildflowers along the way.

Bring a daypack with a lunch, water, and possibly a camera and/or binoculars. Dress for the anticipated weather. Wear closed toe shoes, preferably hiking shoes.

We will meet at the Bennington Rec Center at 10:30 a.m. If you choose to meet us at the trailhead, you can expect us to be there about 11:15 a.m., but if you want to do that, please let the leader know ahead of time so we don't wait for you in Bennington. Please sign up for this trip on our Meetup page by the evening of April 29, Monday. I have listed the end time as 5 p.m. We probably will finish a little bit sooner, but I want to discourage anyone from signing up who needs to be somewhere else in that afternoon.
