Bike the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail
Saturday, Aug 16, 9:30 at Bennington Rec Center
Must RSVP on Meetup to attend
The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is an old railroad track converted into a 10-foot wide paved trail. The trail runs 12.7 miles through the towns of Adams, Cheshire, Lanesborough and ends at North Pittsfield. We will ride out and back which makes about a 25 mile round trip. There is minimal elevation gain. You may choose to ride only part of the trail, in which case you may be riding back alone or with others who choose not to do the entire trail.
Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on the path. If you are riding an e-bike, please plan on keeping pace with the pedal bikes.
Cheshire Reservoir, and the Hoosic River offer outstanding views of the scenery and wildlife. This sounds strange but there are a couple of pine trees near Pittsfield that people have been decorating with Holiday ornaments, so bring an ornament if you wish to add to the tree.
We will stop at Whitney's Farm Market for lunch along the bike path on the return trip, or you can bring your own lunch. Bring water and snacks if desired.
It's about a 35-40 minute drive to Adams visitor center parking lot (3 Hoosac Street) where we will start.
Cancelled if there is rain - be sure to check back here for possible changes on Friday.
If you plan to meet us at the Adams visitor center parking lot, (3 Hoosac Street) please let us know so that we don't wait for you in Bennington. We should be there around 10:15.
