BALD MOUNTAIN "UP AND OVER": from Woodford to Bennington (including White Rocks)

Details
Join us as we explore both sides of the Bald Mountain trail from the Woodford side to the Bennington side, with a stop at the White Rocks for the beautiful fall view of the Bennington valley. We'll meet at the Bennington Recreation Area at 9AM to arrange car pooling to the trailhead.
This is a moderate to strenuous hike, covering 6 miles from end to end, We'll begin on the east side of Bald Mountain in Woodford, climbing 1.9 miles with 1,600 feet elevation change to the junction with the West Ridge Trail where we can stop for snacks and take in the mountain views to the south. The actual top of Bald Mountain is a flat .1 miles further north along the West Ridge Trail and is an optional stop on the hike. We'll then continue south and west from the junction another 2 miles (mostly downhill) through woods, scrub/bog areas and rock slides to reach the White Rocks lookout, which is always a nice place for lunch. From the White Rocks, we'll descend (steeply at times) 2 miles to the Bald Mountain Bennington side parking lot, where we'll have cars positioned to shuttle us back to the Bennington Recreation Center, after which we'll pick up the cars we've left at the Woodford trailhead lot.
Hikers should come prepared with water, snacks, lunch, a warm layer and rain jacket in case of inclement weather. Sturdy hiking boots or shoes are advised, and hiking poles are always nice for crossing the rock slides and aiding on the steeper descents along the trail.
If the day of the hike is wet, we'll reschedule the hike.
We look forward to seeing you!
