Spring Trail Work-Rt 9 North and South
Details
Join us for our first of two spring work days on the Long Trail/Appalachian Trail, led by Matt Vezina and Tim Marr. We will split into two groups, one going south from Route 9 to Harmon Hill, and the other going north from Route 9 to Maple Hill.
We'll do light clipping with loppers, water bar maintenance with hazel/rogue hoes, and clearing fallen limbs and smaller blowdowns with hand saws. On the Harmon Hill side, we'll also be raking leaves off the staircase that initially leads up from route 9.
The route to Harmon Hill is 3.4 miles out and back with an 1,128 ft elevation gain. The route to Maple Hill is 4.2 miles out and back with 1,335 feet elevation gain. Both hikes involve rocky and steep climbs in the first 1/2 mile of trail.
Ending time is approximate. You are welcome to join us for as little or long as you can.
The club has several loppers and hazel hoes to share around, but if you have your own hand tools including hand saws or rakes, be sure to bring them along.
Meet at 9AM at the LT/AT parking lot on the north side of route 9 (see map below). Wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes, and work pants; bring work gloves, rain jacket, water, lunch and snacks. We'll work in light rain, but if the forecast changes to heavy rain, we'll cancel and reschedule TBD.
