Climb Mt Ascutney with the GMC Brattleboro Section

We are pleased to join members of the GMC Brattleboro Section as we climb Mt Ascutney in Weathersfield, VT. This is a strenuous loop hike, starting with a climb up the Weathersfield Trail (2.75 miles, 2185 feet), and descending via the Brownsville Trail (3.2 miles) where we will spot cars. There are rocky and steep areas on both trails. We expect the hike will take 4-5 hours round trip with additional time for rest stops and lunch.
There is an observation tower at the top of the mountain, with a hang glider platform and a waterfall on the way up, and an old rock quarry on the way down.

Those of us from the Bennington area will meet at the Bennington Recreation Center at 7:45AM to arrange carpooling for the 1 1/2 hour drive to the trailhead. Hikers should wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots, and sun protection including hat and sunglasses. Bring a rain jacket, lunch, snacks and extra food, and at least one liter of water (there are water sources at the midpoint of the Weathersfield trail, but be sure to bring a water filter. There are no water sources on the Brownsville descent). Hiking poles are highly recommended.
