Speaker Series: Xinshu and Yaoqi from Zilliqa
Details
Zilliqa (https://www.zilliqa.com/) is a new public blockchain platform for high-throughput applications. It brings the theory of sharding to practice with its novel protocol that increases transaction rates as its network expands. The latest experimental results demonstrate a throughput of more than 2,400 transactions per second, which is over 200 times higher than that of today's popular blockchains. The platform is tailored towards enabling high-throughput data-driven decentralized apps, designed to meet the scaling requirements of applications in areas such as digital marketing, payment, shared economy and rights management.
In this talk, we will first present an overview of the Zilliqa project including the vision, the team, the progress, and use cases. Will then gladly share with everyone in detail the secret recipes of Zilliqa in achieving scalability and security. First of all, Zilliqa leverages a network-level sharding mechanism to divide the nodes in the network to process transactions in parallel, and an atomic transaction sharding protocol to ensure transactions are accepted as if there is no sharding. In addition, to improve our consensus protocol, Zilliqa employs Elliptic Curve Based Schnorr Signature Algorithm (EC-Schnorr) with multi-signing or signature aggregation, to shorten the signature size and reduce communication overhead. Lastly, we’ll provide a sneak preview of our new intermediate-level smart contract language called Scilla, which is designed for secure and efficient programming for decentralized applications. Xinshu bio:
Xinshu is a scientist and practitioner in building secure systems, ranging from blockchains to web browsers and applications. He was a technical lead for several national cybersecurity projects. The outcome of his research has been published at top international conferences. More recently, he led the research and development of Anquan’s proprietary scalable and secure blockchain, deployed for financial and ecommerce applications. He is currently leading the Zilliqa team for developing a new public blockchain Zilliqa for high-throughput applications.
Yaoqi bio:
Yaoqi is the Blockchain Architect for Zilliqa. His prior experience focuses on building secure and privacy-preserving web and distributed systems with cryptographic mechanisms. He proposed several technologies in his research as the building blocks for next-generation blockchain, addressing consensus and privacy issues. His research work has been published in top international conferences, such as CCS, USENIX Security, PETS, RAID, ESORICS. He has received the Best Paper Award in W2SP (2014) and ICECCS (2014). His work was acknowledged by Google and Apple (CVE-2014-7948 for Chrome and CVE-2015-5907 for Safari) and has received media coverage including Dailydot, Gizmodo and Techspot.
