James has photographed Marches in Oakland and San Francisco, gathering Marching images
into extended photo essays. All these Marches are acts of passion. The Marchers are energized,
enthusiastic. Many Marchers have never before participated in demonstrations. In Marching and
choosing to act, to organize, we renew our own communities. We display our deep caring for our
peoples, our lands, our futures. We March, act, and organize from love and our belief in the power of
non-violent connection - inspiring us to act together.
Coalition building is interwoven in these Marches.

James Lerager is a Berkeley-based photojournalist and writer, a UC Berkeley graduate (BA and MPP),
a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia and Ghana, a Fulbright recipient in Columbia. He is the author of

published across the United States and internationally. His 35 Solo photographic exhibitions include
UC Berkeley; MIT; Princeton; Stanford; Mannheim, Germany; Medellin, Columbia; and Fotofest
