Details

An exploration of Reading on foot, following the Thames, the Kennet and Prospect Park.

This walk will be led by Andrew K.

Please see our website for more information about the group.

Pace: medium. Ascent: 70m.

Walk details

From the station, we’ll go up to the Thames and follow the Thames Path downriver, crossing a couple of times. Then we'll join up with the Kennet where it flows in, and follow the path through the middle of the town centre and out the other end.

We’ll continue along the Kennet until we reach Southcote Lock, where we’ll cross over and head north through Southcote to Prospect Park. Afterwards we’ll follow Tilehurst Road and Oxford Road back into town.

Travel details

By public transport

Reading is usually easily accessible by bus or train. However, do note that this walk is on a rail strike day and as such some train services may either be running at a reduced capacity, or not at all.

By car

Car parks available in Reading town centre (charges will apply), or use the Park and Ride.

Notes

  • Please bring a packed lunch and a drink.
  • Please contact the leader directly if you are delayed on the day or can't find the group (find contact details on our website). We are unlikely to respond to Meetup comments or messages sent on the day of the walk in enough time to be helpful.
