Walk details

This 8-mile circular walk from Bramley follows the Silchester Trail to the remains of Calleva Atrebatum, a Roman town developed from its Iron Age predecessor.

Heading northwest out of Bramley we’ll leave the road into fields. Passing under the railway at Clapper’s Farm and over Silchester Brook, the walk will skirt the southern edge of North Copes. The path from here leads to Calleva Atrebatum where on arrival we'll see the 12th century Church of St. Mary the Virgin.

At Calleva Atrebatum the walk will loop round the outer edge of the remaining Roman town seeing sections of wall that still stand. On completion of the loop we'll branch off to the amphitheatre. (Access to the amphitheatre may be restricted due to recent wet weather).

After a lunch stop the walk will head back to Bramley via the Drove which runs through the middle of Calleva Atrebatum. Once on the west side of the site we’ll pick up the footpaths via Three Ashes and Bramley Frith Wood.
