Ridgeway Ramble, 11.5 miles, moderate

This 11.5 mile circular walk from Bury Down car park takes us along the Ridgeway and through the villages of Farnborough, Catmore and West Ilsley.

Walk details

We start our walk at the Bury Down Car park on the Ridegway with stunning views of the surrounding area. We head west along the Ridgeway before heading south to the village of Farnborough – the highest village in Berkshire (according to an anonymous Google source)! Continuing in a southerly direction we make our way across open fields to Catmore – population 28! (2001 Census). It is from Catmore that we make our way through the woods towards West Ilsley and back up to the Ridgeway.

Unfortunately there is no public transport available to this walk. Feel free to use either our Facebook group (members only) or the comments section here on Meetup to arrange lifts – there are often members who are happy to help!

By car

The Ridgeway car park at Bury Down is on Bury Lane and can be accessed either from West Ilsley or from the A34. Please note that the postcode covers a wide area and may not take you to the correct location on its own. Parking is available on both sides of the road.

• It might be muddy – please wear suitable footwear.
