Hungerford, Littlecote House and Ramsbury Circular, 12.9 miles, moderate

Details

Today’s circular walk takes us to the Berks-Wilts border to Ramsbury and the 15th-century Littlecote House, the latter of which was built by King Henry VIII on the grounds of a Roman villa ruins. From Hungerford station, we’ll head to the Kennel & Avon Canal, which we walk along to get to Freeman’s Marsh to walk through it. After this, we’ll walk through Brickkiln Copse and a road to reach Littlecote House, where we’ll stop off for lunch, before passing the former Roman villa to head to the quaint village of Ramsbury. After this, we’ll pass a farm, Selworth Border and Cake Wood to head back to the Kennet & Avon Canal, which we follow back into Hungerford via St Lawrence Church.

Please note, that for our lunch stop at Littlecote House, we'll be stopping off in the grounds of the house for lunch. Whilst there is a cafe in the main hotel, we won't have access to it due to its size. For those who want to have a pint at the end of the walk, we’ll be stopping off at the John O’Gaunt Inn, which is only a 5-minute walk from the station.

Ascent: 138m.
