Three Castles Path Part 6 - Totford to Winchester, 12.5 miles, strenuous

Details

The Three Castles Path is a 60 mile trek from Windsor Castle to Winchester Great Hall. The Path is based on the 13th Century journeys of King John around the time of the Magna Carta. It is so named as it passes the castles of Windsor, Odiham, and Winchester. Sadly, only Windsor Castle remains intact to the present day, with Odiham Castle currently a ruin and Winchester Castle destroyed completely with the Great Hall marking its location. We take a 6 part journey retracing history - our journey will pass the towns of New Alresford, Hartley Wintney, Ascot, Sandhurst and Bracknell as well as numerous villages.

We start the final part of our Three Castles journey from the Woolpack Inn in Totford where we will make our way through Abbotstone and towards Itchen Abbas where we will have a pub stop at the Plough.

We will then make our way through Martyr Worthy past Easton and joining up with the Itchen Way for the last stretch into Winchester where we will conclude our Three Castles journey at the third of our Three Castles, Winchester Great Hall.

Please see our website for more information about the group.

There is no direct public transport to the start of the walk. There are two options for getting to the start. Option 1 is to get the 9:12 train from Reading to Winchester (changing at Basingstoke) arriving at 10:07. You will then have to catch a taxi to Totford (you can stop at Micheldever which would take shorter time but you would have to pre-arrange your own taxi). Option 2 is to park at Winchester and catch a taxi to Totford.

Please contact the leader directly if you are delayed on the day or can't find the group (find contact details on our website). We are unlikely to respond to Meetup comments or messages sent on the day in enough time to be helpful.
