Thames Path Part Ten: Goring to Shillingford, 10 miles, moderate
Details
The Thames Path is a 182 mile National Trail stretching from London to Gloucestershire. This year, the group will aim to cover the whole trail from start to finish! Following the success of our London and Berkshire legs, the following 3 walks in this series will take us through Oxfordshire from Goring to Oxford!
**To add some fun to our adventure, you are encouraged to purchase the Thames Passport where we will collect stamps at over 30 stamping stations along the Path. Collect stamps at all the various stations and you can receive a Certificate of Completion for doing the whole trail from start to finish! The link to purchase the passport is here: https://walkthethames.co.uk/thames-path-passport/**
The first Oxfordshire leg of our Thames adventure! Setting off from Goring station, we will make our way through Goring high street and cross the river to the Streatley side, passing the Norman church as we do so. After passing through some meadows we will eventually make it to Moulsford and have our first pub stop at the Beetle and Wedge pub to collect another passport stamp.
After refreshment, there will be a brief bit of road walking before we head under the railway and into Cholsey Marsh nature reserve where we will have our lunch stop.
Following lunch, we will pass Oxford Brookes University boathouse and several gardens, with a sight of Agatha Christie’s old house before arriving at Wallingford Bridge and the Town Arms for a second pub stop and stamp for our passports.
The final part of this leg will take us out of Wallingford across Benson Weir before arriving at Shillingford Bridge Hotel to collect a third stamp and conclude this leg. There will be the option to get further refreshment or walk a short stretch into Shillingford to catch the bus home.

To get to the walk start at Goring from Reading, please get the 9:53 train from Reading arriving into Goring at 10:06. If this train is delayed, the start of the walk will also be delayed. To return to Reading, please get the X40 from Shillingford Roundabout which runs every 30 minutes on a Saturday and would take approximately an hour to get back to Reading. It is highly recommended that you use public transport for this leg given driving would add a significant amount of journey time to the walk start.
