Details

Today’s walk takes us from Midgham and Mortimer via AWE’s Aldermaston site and the Roman Silchester/Calleva Atrebatum site. Starting at Midgham station, we’ll start off by heading towards the AWE site in Tadley via Paices Wood. After briefly passing AWE’s entrance, we’ll walk through Tadley village centre towards the common before heading towards Pamber Heath and Silchester Common to take us towards Silchester village. After this, we’ll continue to head towards Silchester Roman ruins where we’ll walk around the northern walls towards the Amphitheatre and Foundry Brook. We’ll walk parallel to this after to head towards our finishing point at Mortimer station.

As there’s no pubs close to Mortimer station, there’ll be no pub stop at the end of the walk. However, we plan to have an optional pub stop at The Calleva Arms in Silchester, of which we’ll have the opportunity to go to during our lunch stop.
