6 Miles around Thatcham? No Problem! 6 miles, leisurely

Fancy a bit of fresh air, some beautiful countryside and a lovely way to spend your Sunday? Then why not join me for a relaxed 6-mile walk starting and finishing at Thatcham Station!

We’ll set off from Thatcham Station at 11:10am and make our way towards the Kennet and Avon Canal, crossing over the water as we leave the station behind and head out into the countryside.

Our route takes us past Crookham Manor and onwards towards Crookham Common, where we can enjoy the peaceful surroundings and open countryside.

From here, we’ll follow the River Enborne as we make our way towards Greenham Common, taking in the scenery and enjoying a change of landscape along the way.

We’ll cross Greenham Common, with its wide-open spaces and big skies, before joining up with the Kennet and Avon Canal once again.

From there, we’ll follow the canal towpath back towards Thatcham, enjoying the waterside views and the peaceful atmosphere before returning to Thatcham Station to complete our circular adventure.

We have the option at the end to go to The Swan Pub near Thatcham Station for a well earned post walk drink!

🥪 A little lunch stop along the way!
Please bring a packed lunch and something to drink, as we’ll find a beautiful spot to stop for a well-earned break. It’ll be a chance to sit back, enjoy our surroundings, have a bite to eat and get to know our fellow walkers a little better.

This is an easy 6-mile walk, ideal for anyone looking to get out and about without taking on anything too strenuous. We’ll have a relaxed pace, plenty of countryside to enjoy and good company along the way.

By public transport
From Reading take the 10:43 train arriving in Thatcham at 11:02.
From Newbury take the 10.57 train arriving in Thatcham at 11.02.

By car
Parking is available at the train station, charges apply (APCOA). You may find some free parking in some of the local side roads near the station.
