CountGD: Multi-Modal Open-World Counting

CountGD is presented as the first open-world counting model capable of counting any object specified by text only, visual examples only, or both together. It extends the Grounding DINO architecture by adding components that allow object specification through visual examples. This multi-modal capability improves counting accuracy. CountGD is already powering multiple products and has been applied to diverse problems, such as:

* Counting large penguin populations for climate change monitoring

* Counting buildings from satellite images

* Counting seals for conservation purposes1

GorillaWatch: Advancing Gorilla Re-Identification and Population Monitoring with AI

The GorillaWatch project leverages visual AI to improve the monitoring of endangered gorilla populations. Traditionally, scientists rely on labor-intensive manual video labeling. GorillaWatch provides robust re-identification of individual gorillas and generates local population estimates during wildlife encounters, supporting conservation efforts1.

This Gets Under Your Skin – The Art of Skin Type Classification

Skin analysis faces challenges due to inconsistent portrait quality, lighting variations, and the presence of sunscreen or makeup. This talk covers the development of an AI pipeline for skin type classification, which addresses these real-world challenges using:

* Image quality control

* Facial segmentation

* A final classifier trained on curated dermatological features
