What we witnessed many times: Food does the magic ā thatās why we want to open the C*SPACE kitchen to regular dinner gatherings and offer space for diverse experimental food formats in collaboration with exciting co-hosting partners, cultural practitioners as much as culinary creatives, artists and food activists.

The night is co-hosted by Lavia Lin ā a Berlin-based artist, cultural manager, and proud Shanghainese ā this special gathering marks a deeply personal occasion: the 30th anniversary of the House of Blues & Jazz, a legendary venue in Shanghai run by her family, and a cultural home to generations of expats, musicians, and creatives.
The idea for Berlin Shanghai Night first came to life in 2022, in the middle of the pandemic, a time when many of us longed for connection, for home, and for shared culture. The plan was to make it a recurring event, but like many dreams, it was paused by global uncertainties.
Now, itās time to pick it up againābecause we have something worth celebrating.A Special Occasion ā 30 Years of the House of Blues & Jazz
This edition is extra special. Weāre honoring 30 years of the House of Blues & Jazzāa cornerstone of Shanghaiās music scene and a second home for locals and expats alike. Itās a place that has hosted world-class musicians and nightly gatherings for three decades, embodying the spirit of artistic exchange and warm hospitality.To celebrate this legacy, weāre bringing a little piece of that magic to Berlin: a Shanghai-style night with live jazz, soulful food, cocktails, and conversation.

- Lavia, an artist and cultural manager originally from Shanghai, has long been involved in fostering musical and artistic connections. Having grown up at The House of Blues & Jazz, she continues to create spaces where music, art, and culture come together.
- Katja & Jan, a cultural mediator and a photographer, called Shanghai home for 16 years. After relocating to Berlin, they realized their dream of creating a space for cross-cultural encounters by founding C*SPACE, an inspiring venue in a former furniture factory in Berlin-WeiĆensee.
- Martina, born in Slovakia but āmadeā in Asia, where she spent 15 amazing years living in Shanghai and Tokyo. She is a freelance event producer, a passionate advocate for social and environmental impact, a craft enthusiast, and a proud dog mom to a Shanghai rescue-come-therapy-dog called Milo.
