Join me on a historical walk around Berlin's much neglected Westhafen

The plan: We'll grab a Wegbier and follow the canal towards Westhafen, exploring this enormous piece of industrial infrastructure hidden in plain sight in the middle of the city. We'll discover one of Berlin's greatest engineering achievements: a harbour built to feed and supply a rapidly growing metropolis.

Along the way we'll explore monumental warehouses, canals, railway infrastructure and industrial architecture before finishing in the beautiful Sprengelkiez with a beer by the water (sunshine not guaranteed!).

Opened in the 1920s, Westhafen became Berlin's largest inland port and one of the most important logistics hubs in Germany. Grain, building materials and countless other goods passed through its enormous basins and warehouses. Today, the harbour remains active, while its historic buildings offer a fascinating glimpse into Berlin's industrial past.

We meet outside Wedding S-Bahn station before setting off along the canals towards Westhafen. We will finish in Sprengelkiez, where we can enjoy a drink together and continue the evening.
