About us
Welcome to exploratorium berlin – a space for free improvisation, experimental music and creative encounters. We offer workshops, courses and ensemble groups for musicians, singers, dancers, actors and anyone curious about improvisation and collaborative artistic practice. We also host open formats such as meetups, open workshops and Open Stages, which are free or donation-based. All experience levels are welcome – from curious beginners to professional artists.

voiceX -Course in Vocal Improvisation
exploratorium berlin, Zossener Str. 24, 10961 Berlin, Germany, Berlin, BE, DEIn this course, participants experience their voice as an incredibly versatile and flexible sound instrument based on breathing, resonance and articulation exercises.
Experimental vocal techniques are introduced in a vocal warm-up and new forms are discovered by playing together.
While singing and listening, we experience the diverse resonances of our voices in our own bodies, in the room and in contact with the other participants.
We will explore different forms of developing pieces together: from playful approaches to concepts to free improvisation – from solo, duo, trio to choir.

Workshop: Global Groove
exploratorium berlin, Zossener Str. 24, 10961 Berlin, Germany, Berlin, BE, DENora Thiele’s GLOBAL GROOVE teaching concept combines knowledge from different rhythm cultures around the world. The focus is on training rhythmic precision, a sense of sound and stylistic diversity. We work with the Indian rhythm language Solkattu, movement and frame drums. On the third day, the focus is on rhythmic improvisation on your own instrument (please bring along).

Sound Adventures: Improvisation with voice and instruments

Lauren Newton works with participants, drawing on her experience in jazz, free improvisation, and contemporary music, and incorporates advanced vocal and instrumental techniques that go beyond the conventional. Among the aspects explored during this musical adventure are individual and collective sound, rhythmic and tonal elements, noise, melody, fragments of language, space, and unexpected moments.
By improvising with unconventional working methods, participants’ perception of music becomes clearer and takes on a deeper meaning for them and the audience. With the musical moment as a guide, creativity is unleashed and the cosmos of sound is experienced in new ways.8 Jan – 10 Jan 2027
