➡ WHAT TO EXPECT

Again – long time, no see. The pandemic is slowly fading out (hopefully – let's see how well this ages), and we would love to use the opportunity to have a final online-only version of our Meetup.

Today's communication mostly takes place over Internet. And as we learned over the past decade, there are interested parties that would really love to know what this communication is about.

Therefore, cryptographic protocols are used to ensure confidentiality and integrity. TLS (TPFKAS – "The Protocol Formerly Known As SSL") is probably the most important of these protocols. It secures basically everything these days – browsing, emails, telephony, instant messaging, DNS, etc.

For these reasons this Security Night will be about TLS. After a foundational talk introducing TLS' core concepts, we will dive into the question of "What does security actually mean in this context?".

➡ TALKS

TLS & OpenSSL – A foundational talk
One of the most successful and widely used cryptographic protocols secures our daily communications. To understand TLS/SSL, we’d like to introduce the basic concepts and practice with an open-source library.

Provable Cryptography – (Why) Is TLS secure?
In this talk Franziskus will give a short introduction into provable cryptography and talk about security models for protocols such as TLS. Why is TLS secure and what does "secure" actually mean?

Q&A on horror stories about TLS/SSL
Inspired by our last night, we’d like to give our listeners the floor again. Since TLS is so prevalent, others could learn from mistakes. Let’s discuss the problems and possible workarounds.

➡ SCHEDULE

7:10 pm – Talk 1
7:30 pm – Talk 2
