Soli Deo Gloria means Glory to God alone and was one of J.S. Bach’s personal mottos, which he signed on many of his manuscripts. Philosopher Emil Cioran once remarked that the one argument for God’s existence that all philosophers have missed is simply: Bach.
Here is a link to “Jauchzet, frohlocket” from Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium.

Jung famously said he no longer needed to believe in God’s existence, because now he knew. In Jungian psychology, different things may be meant by the word “God”. It may refer to the Dream Maker, the Supreme Archetype, the Numinous, the creative force behind the world. Maybe it is Consciousness, or perhaps the totality of the Unconscious.
Many people find themselves at odds with organized religion and its teachings. Is God truly only good? Is He all-powerful? Why do we call God “He”? Is Satan—or Evil—God’s shadow? Does God gain consciousness through the human experience? And why is there so much suffering if God is all-loving?
The inflexible, “know-it-all” aspect of religious dogma can feel troubling or even infuriating—Marie-Louise von Franz felt the same.
Yet to 'throw the baby out with the bathwater" would also be a mistake.
According to von Franz, dreams are messages from God, and to have a dream interpreted is to understand God’s will for you.
Active Imagination may be another form of prayer. Synchronicities may be moments of deep meaning, touches of destiny, signs from God.
Perhaps most importantly, a relationship with God is a reality to be experienced.
So—what is God to you?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. In the meantime, please enjoy this fragment from one of Marie-Louise von Franz’s lectures on Alchemy, where she enters into a dialogue with a theologian - see photo album.
