Brunch & Museum: Camille Claudel & Bernhard Hoetger at Alte Nationalgalerie

Details

Join us for a summer afternoon of sculpture, conversation, and connection. We’ll begin with a cozy brunch where I’ll guide you through the intertwined lives and bold artistic journeys of Camille Claudel and Bernhard Hoetger, followed by our visit to the exhibition Emancipation from Rodin at the Alte Nationalgalerie.

What does it mean to break free from a powerful influence like Rodin? What happens when two sculptors from different worlds meet in Paris and inspire each other to defy convention?

✨ Agenda
🍽️ Brunch Meetup – We’ll meet at a brunch spot (location TBA) for relaxed conversation and a mini-lecture.

🏛️ Alte Nationalgalerie – Camille Claudel & Bernhard Hoetger: Emancipation from Rodin
For the first time since 1905, this exhibition reunites the sculptural works of Claudel and Hoetger—two artists who developed their own voices while distancing themselves from the towering figure of Auguste Rodin. Their paths crossed in Paris, where both struggled for recognition and carved out their places in modern art history.

We’ll explore themes of artistic emancipation, the challenges faced by women artists, and the emotional power of sculpture—from Claudel’s The Implorer to Hoetger’s expressive forms.

What does emancipation in art look like? And how do their works resonate with us today?
