Cycle & dine - Stechlinseebahn and Mulberry Festival**
Details
UPDATE 20190801:
Due to some unexpected railroad works the tour has to be slightly changed.
We take the S1 from Yorckstraße (me, at 08:41) OR Gesundbrunnen (08:59) to Birkenwerder and cycle from there the short distance to Oranienburg to get into original train at 10:11 o'clock.
I went out today just to check if this would be possible and: even if we cycle a relaxed pace the train can easily be reached in that time. So, no worries about these changes. The rest of the plan stays as scheduled.
The Mulberry festival only takes place this weekend and there is also the Stechlinseefest in Neuglobsow, http://www.heimatverein-neuglobsow.de. It's a great tour and I'm very much looking forward to!
ROUTE:
Starting in Gransee we follow the Stechlinseebahn, a beautiful former railway embankment for about 14 km before we arrive in Zernikow. On this Saturday Gut Zernikow celebrates their "19. Zernikower Maulbeerfest", https://gut-zernikow.de/2019/19-zernikower-maulbeerfest, which is related to the silkworm breeding from the 18th century and an age-old Mulberry allée close by, https://mlul.brandenburg.de/cms/detail.php/bb1.c.304660.de .
After enjoying hopefully delicious specialities we pass the Mulberry allée with more than 250 years old trees on the way to the Stechlinsee. There we stop for a swim (or two, and maybe pop by the Fishermen) before we head along the Peetschsee and Steinförde to arrive in Fürstenberg after some 38 km. From there the train brings us straight back to Berlin.
SPEED:
Leisurely around 15 km/h.
DISTANCE AND TERRAIN:
This is a 9+38+9ish km ride with some solid but mainly forrest or rural ground. While there are solid roads I expect to also have some sandy or urban ground.
As always: Race bikes, Fixies and Folding bikes are not suitable!
And if you want to bring Kids or Animals please get in touch before!
MEETING POINT:
08:30 at the ticket machine right after the NORTHERN entrance on Yorckstraße (S1).
For those getting in Berlin Gesundbrunnen: Make sure you can get in the LAST TRAIN COMPARTMENT of the S1!
I have a blue Villiger Trekking bike and wear probably some greenish clothes.
TICKETS:
Since there is always a hassle who buys what and where: I buy a BBT for those who text me before SAT, 08:20 (I send my mobile number via PN)
Bike-Daytickets are on your own.
