About us
Now more than ever, technology seems close to delivering on its promise of total control over nature. That makes this the right moment for a fundamental reflection on what technology actually is, and what it does to us and the world.
We're a Berlin-based reading group that reads and discusses classic and contemporary texts in the philosophy of technology. We start with Martin Heidegger's essay "The Question Concerning Technology," then work through Jacques Ellul's "The Technological Society" in manageable sections and so on.
Who it's for: anyone in Berlin curious about how technology shapes how we live, work and think. No background in philosophy needed. Discussions are in English.
How it works: we meet online every 3 weeks for 90 minutes. Each session starts with a short recap of the reading, then we split into small breakout groups to discuss, and come back together to share key points. Haven't finished the reading? Come anyway.
Our ground rules: we steelman before we criticize, and we ask whether each text has gained or lost relevance since it was written.
We plan to add in-person meetups in Berlin as the group grows.
