Lens to Lens: A Portrait Experience

Details
Hello photographers!
Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned shooter, this is your chance to slow down, look deeper, and capture portraits that go beyond the surface.
I will be hosting the workshop with Ali Gomaa, a portrait photographer with over a decade of experience in commercial and fine art photography. Ali is known for drawing out powerful emotion and unspoken character in his work—capturing images that feel intimate, honest, and alive.
In this meetup, you’ll both portray someone and be portrayed yourself. It’s not just about taking a good photo. It’s about seeing the person, telling their story, and learning how small choices—like body language, light, and angle—completely change the feeling of a portrait.
What to Bring
• Your Camera – DSLR, mirrorless, or even your smartphone
• An Outfit or Accessories That Represent You
Wear something that feels like the version of yourself you want the world to see—something with personal meaning, identity, or intention. This is your chance to show who you are beyond the surface.
• Curiosity & Openness – You’ll be in front of the lens, too!
What We’ll Do
This workshop is all about capturing real character through pose, perspective, and light—while also learning what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera.
You’ll rotate between photographing others and being photographed yourself, exploring how subtle shifts in body language, camera angles, and lighting can completely transform a portrait.
• How does sitting casually vs. standing grounded change how someone is perceived?
• What does a bird’s eye view say compared to shooting from below?
• How can shadows or natural light bring out someone’s true personality?

A little about me. I am from Australia and I moved to Berlin 2 years ago to pursue my passion as a portrait/wedding photographer. I’m currently working as an independent photographer and I first started out my passion from walking on the streets on Berlin and approach people for a spontaneous interview/photoshoot, and now I've worked with several celebrity comedians like Atsuko Okatsuka and Tamer Kattan.
