BERLIN WILD SWIMMERS
Berlin is arguably the best large city in the world for open water swimming. There are dozens of lakes within an hour from the city center, and at least five good lakes within city limits. In this group, we try to take the most advantage of these lakes by programming a variety of outings to different sites in the region.
We do regular early morning swims, evening outings in the middle of the week, and daytrips to the best lakes in Brandenburg or even the Baltic Sea. Some of our trips are conveniently close to public transportation while others require a good bike ride to be there.
We started in the summer of 2016, and by now have already visited around 30 lakes in the area. Between April and October there are often several activities planned per week. Sometimes it will be to new lakes, but we regularly return to our favorites. Most of us are not competitive swimmers, preferring leisturely swims around or across the lakes. But we encourage our more athletic members to suggest training meetups as well.
Within Berlin, we often visit Weissensee, Schlachtensee, Krumme Lanke and Flughafensee. Further out our favorites include Strausssee, Stechlin and Liepnitzsee.
