Two Sides of the Serverless Coin: Serverless ML by Data Scientists and Engineers

Details

Details:
You're invited to a special WiMLDS event! Our next session features two talented women who will share their experiences working on a project from two different perspectives: Data Science and Engineering. It's a chance to see a project from two sides, and we can't wait to have you join us for this insightful event.

Talk Outline:
This talk delves into the transition from a traditional, resource-intensive machine learning system to a serverless ML platform. You will learn about the challenges posed by the old system architecture. The session will discuss why the shift to serverless was essential in addressing scalability issues and in streamlining setup and deployment. Throughout the presentation, insights, best practices, and lessons will be shared from two perspectives: those of the platform-building engineers and the data scientists using the platform.

About the Speakers:
Franziska Deutschmann has over 10 years of experience in Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning. She conducts Data Science mostly in Python and R - starting from data sourcing, through data preparation and modeling, to the presentation of the resulting insights. Her extensive methodological knowledge builds upon her academic studies in statistics, econometrics and optimization.

Berit Frech is working as a Data and Cloud Engineer at exxeta, where she specializes in the design and development of scalable cloud solutions. Before joining exxeta, she completed her master's degree in Information System Management at TU Berlin. Already during her studies she intensively dealt with distributed systems with a focus on serverless technologies, which she integrates into her projects to achieve efficient and cost-effective solutions.
Event Agenda:

  • 6:00 PM - Doors open, networking
  • 6:30 PM - Introduction to WiMLDS
  • 6:45 PM - Keynote talk by Franziska and Berit on "Unlocking the Power of Serverless: Transforming to a Scalable ML Platform"
  • 7:30 PM - Open mic
