The evening

18:30 - Warming up and networking chat

18:45 - Welcome talk

19:00 - 19:45 - Luca Zonta // Sustainable Serverless Computing with Rust

Building a sustainable computing environment! The computing industry is growing rapidly and poses a challenge to environmental sustainability. Architectural choices can have a big impact in this regard.

The solution lies in a simple algorithm: less resource consumption means less energy consumption.

This is where Rust comes into play, the programming language that can contribute to sustainable serverless computing. By leveraging its powerful capabilities, we can create serverless functions that consume fewer resources and run more efficiently. This leads to a shorter AWS Lambda execution time, lower cost, and a smaller carbon footprint. Rust for serverless computing? Migrating an AWS Lambda from Node to Rust can lead to more sustainable coding practices. There are more benefits of Rust for example performance, cost, and energy efficiency.

About Luca: Luca is an experienced full-stack developer in Python and React. With more than 6 years of experience on AWS, he has a solid foundation in serverless architecture development.

19:45 - 20:15 - Short break with snacks and drinks

20:15 - 21:00 - Robert Hoffmann // Make developers fly: Building the right internal developer platform

How can your company help developers to fly, but not crash down? The answer is platform engineering, which is the discipline of building internal developer platforms (IDPs) to simplify software delivery for product teams. In this talk, first we will introduce how platform engineering and IDPs evolved from the DevOps movement. Then, we will look at a variety of IDP setups, including a highly decentralized one, and discuss how you can build a platform that fits your organization. Finally, we take a look at the high-level capabilities of typical IDPs, and how you can implement them in different IT ecosystems.

About Robert: is a Senior Solutions Architect at AWS. Before, he worked for top smart device and telecommunication brands, pioneering cloud native applications during the early days of Docker and Kubernetes. At AWS, he is supporting some of the world’s largest retail brands on their cloud journey. Robert is passionate about observability, infrastructure as code and developer productivity. You can find him discussing these topics on conferences and Twitter @robhoffmax.
