Abstract

The Grantlee Template System (https://github.com/steveire/grantlee) is a implemention of the Django Template System (http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/templates/) in Qt. The intent of the system is to encourage a clean separation of application and presentation logic, and to take the presentation of information out of the hands of developers and into the hands of artists.

Programmers still often write code with C++ for loops, and C++ if conditions, concatenating C++ std::strings to create some output. The output can be for display, it can be generated code to feed into another tool, emails to send out to multiple different people etc. Use of C++ code to create such content is inflexible, so a well-designed DSL can reduce the update cycle and enable different tools and skill sets.

This talk will examine the status quo of text template systems for C++, and focus on what Grantlee can offer programmers and users in Qt applications.
