I really like the area between Frohnau and Schönfließ, in the north of Berlin, due to its diverse landscapes. Interestingly, most forest is there on Berlin grounds. As soon as Berlin ends, the forest ends as well and instead wide farmlands start. Still, one can also find surprising sand dunes in the former border strips; changing to very green swamps just a bit after.

So, let's go to Frohnau and walk towards Schönfließ!

On our hike, we will see:

  • Frohnau, with its special urban design
  • the border strip around Frohnau with its yellow sand dunes
  • the old Invalidensiedlung
  • the foresty part of Frohnau, more than 100 years ago meant to be developed like the rest of Frohnau
  • the open fields at Schönfließ
  • the very green Kindelfließ

We'll meet on Saturday at 11:00 directly at the starting point of the hike, at the S-Bahn station Frohnau, on the platform, next to the stairs. After a 16 to 17 km hike, we will finish close to sunset at the station Schönfließ. The S8 takes us from there back to Berlin.

Important things to note:

  • This is an average hike with a relatively long distance. Sometimes, the ground can be muddy or sandy. Thus, you should wear suitable shoes.
  • You are all responsible for yourself. None of us is mountain guide or something like that.
  • There won't be too many Späties along the route, so have enough water and food with you.
  • Please note that the number of participants is limited, because at a certain size a group gets virtually unmanageable. As the demand may be higher than the number of available spots, please be fair and only RSVP if you are sure that you can make it. If you learn later that you cannot take part, please update your RSVP accordingly.
