Recap of Part 2, Act 2. Most of the party, sick, or afraid of the cold, stay in the cabin, but nothing will stop Juno, and Legifer from continuing the quest. They leave the captured sprite with Ten-Penny, with a bon appétit. After readying the 4 horses in the coral, they head out with them and the Elk. They must cross a 5’ wide rope bridge that spans 30’ over a 50’ deep gorge, wind blows rocking the bridge while a raging icy river flows at the bottom. The bridge is covered with snow and ice, making crossing hazardous. Juno was able to make use of her spiked shoes, and started to cross the bridge. After going 10 feet on the bridge while cleaning off the snow as she crossed, an ice elemental pops up on the path ahead, while an Ice Mephit flies out from around the trees. The ice elemental approached Juno on the bridge, and Legifer cast a spell to double his reach. The ice mephit used a cone of cold breath on the two PC’s but it was not powerful enough to get past their cold resistance, they both did bluff checks to make it seam as they were hurt, and the mephit seemed to believe them. The ice elemental did get a couple of hits on Juno, but they also hit back and destroyed it, Legifer new reach helped a lot as on the narrow bridge. Meanwhile the ice mephit made a large snowball to drop on the PC’s while Juno crossed the bridge to the other side. They both started ranged attacks, Legifer with a light crossbow, and Juno with acid splash. The Ice mephit continued its breath attack, after dropping a large snowball on Juno causing her to fall prone. The ice mephit had fast healing so it recovered most of the damage as it flew around in the trees, but Legifer made a critical hit, and they were able to take out the mephit on its last flyby attack. Fortunately, the Mephit did not fall into the gorge when it was killed, and the PC’s were able to get its treasure.
After traveling a bit farther on the trail they came across two Frost Skeletons, they all approached each other for battle. Juno went first, and was attacked by one of the skeletons, even though it missed Juno, she was able to perry, and immediately made a retaliatory attack. The skeletons did not last long, and they only got a couple of hits in, their cold damage was weak, and even though they explode when killed, the cold damage did not hurt them.
The two moved on for several hours, and came across the remains of a bloody skirmish, after investigating a slain humanoid close to the trail, Juno recognizes him as Dryden Kemp, frozen all the way through they think he has been this way for days. There were large tracks form a creature that may be the giant white weasel Kemp talked about hunting. It seems the weasel won this battle, but it left a trail of some blood as it must have been hurt in the skirmish with Dryden. They found some treasure on his corpse, including an Eternal wand of infernal healing, which Juno made use of to heal her many wounds. They burn the body, say a few words for the deceased, and start back on the trail.
They travel for another hour through the forest following the trail, when a tree in front of them demands a 100-gold toll to pass further, Legifer detects they are evil and decides not to pay. The battle begins with Juno and Legifer trapped between two Frost Firs, but they each step toward them to avoid being flanked. Legifer hits hard and took his Frost Fir down first, but Juno soon follows as Legifer lets he get her kill. The find treasure on the tree creatures a total of 240 gold.
