Protocol
- We critique 4 pieces per meeting, unless negotiated between attendees beforehand.
- Reading is done ahead of our meeting. If you are attending, you are expected to provide actionable feedback and reactions to the piece--this is true ESPECIALLY if you're bringing a piece to be read.
- If you have a piece to contribute, send it to the organizer between Friday morning and Monday night before the meeting VIA SLACK.
- Pieces should be: 3,000 words or less, in manuscript format (use https://www.shunn.net/format/story/ as a guide, but without all the contact info), and reasonably polished.
- To Be Nice: An author's note to let us know where we are in the piece to set the scene, let us know what kind of feedback you're looking for, who the target audience is, if it's a short story, flash fiction, or novel excerpt.
- If you have not accessed the Slack yet, you'll need to contact Aldrian Estepa (message me on Meetup) in order to get an invite. This extra step is to avoid the recent issues in both Meetup and Zoom in other writing groups.
- The Google Doc with all piece links will only be available on Slack, usually by Monday morning.
Agenda:
7 to 7:20 Announcements and information sharing
7:20 First critique begins
8:50 Closing remarks, suggestions and preparations for next meeting.
Note, if we are short a writer we may do writing exercises with the extra time or end early.
Ground Rules: We are an inclusive accepting group and will not allow cruel, exploitative or manipulative activity. Critique must be honest, fair and constructive. All copyrights must be respected. Preferred pronouns may be provided at introduction.
