Introducing Ibis: A Python Interface for SQL Databases

Details

As data grows, Pandas—Python's go-to tool for tabular data—can struggle with large datasets. Enter modern analytical databases (like DuckDB) which offer an order-of-magnitude improvement in speed and efficiency, but often through SQL interfaces unfamiliar to Pandas users.

This talk introduces Ibis, an open-source Python library that bridges this gap. We'll explore:

  • The current data landscape in the PyData ecosystem
  • How Ibis connects Python's simplicity with SQL's power
  • Improving performance and portability in data analysis
  • Comparing Ibis with other Python-SQL solutions

Whether you're a data scientist, analyst, or developer, learn how Ibis can enhance your data workflow without rewriting your entire codebase.
